Join InnovateDC Analytics' award-winning data science team this summer or fall and transform how government agencies leverage data to drive policy decisions. As a Data Science Intern, you'll work on real-world projects that impact millions of DC residents while receiving mentorship from industry experts. Our 12-week program combines hands-on project experience with technical workshops and networking events with federal partners.
This paid internship offers flexible start dates between June-September and includes a $2,000 completion bonus. You'll gain exposure to machine learning, predictive modeling, and data visualization while building a portfolio that showcases your impact on public sector innovation.
Responsibilities
- Develop predictive models using Python (scikit-learn, TensorFlow) to analyze urban development trends
- Create interactive data visualizations with Tableau and Power BI for stakeholder presentations
- Clean and preprocess large datasets from government APIs and public sources
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Present findings to senior leadership using storytelling techniques
- Contribute to open-source projects aligned with civic technology initiatives
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing Bachelor's or Master's in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field
- Proficiency in Python and SQL with experience in data manipulation libraries (pandas, NumPy)
- Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and statistical analysis methods
- Strong problem-solving skills with ability to communicate complex concepts clearly
- Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or D3.js)
- Interest in applying data science to public policy or urban development
- Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the internship
